PASTORAL DECLARATION

We have been gathered here today by the Holy Spirit, as new creations, to celebrate the mystery of our union with Christ. We present our bodies as living sacrifices because the Lord has already presented his body for all time, a single sacrifice for sins. The abiding presence of Christ is realized in us as we come to his table by the power of his Spirit, for we believe his words: “Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.”

CONGREGATIONAL CONFESSION:

The Lord told us to do this in remembrance of him, of his finished work, of his selfless conquest. We confess our sinfulness and remember his mercy. We acknowledge our failures and remember his faithfulness. We remember the good work that he started in us while we were still sinners.

The Lord told us to do this until he returns in the fullness of his glory. Because of this meal, we have a hope that does not disappoint. Each celebration of this table brings us one moment closer to his return, to the coming of his Kingdom in fullness. This bread and this cup declare that our present sufferings are not worth comparing to the glory that is to be revealed in us.

PASTORAL PRAYER:

Father: you are our eternal Source and we thank you for the gift of your Son.
Jesus: you are our victorious King and we pledge our faithful love to you.
Spirit: you are our empowering Guide and we yield our hearts to you.

Blessed is the Kingdom of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. You are the “one Lord” who abides in us as we share this meal, and I proclaim this one bread and this one cup blessed. You have created in yourself one new man and we celebrate this mystery today by receiving your life and presenting our own at this altar. May we be eager to maintain this unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, by your grace and for the glory of your name – Amen.
