Dear Salem Tabernacle Family,
What an unforgettable weekend we just had! Jonathan Martin, Dr. Chris Green and Dr. Christopher House ministered to us with such a unique combination of sincerity, biblical wisdom and prophetic insight. If you missed any of the services, please go ahead and bless yourself by making sure you get a copy of their work among us – especially Saturday’s luncheon… (WOW!) I’ve been in a whole lotta church services and conferences in my day, and this weekend stands out as among the best preaching and teaching I’ve heard. Ever.
I want to extend a HUGE “thank you!” to the wonderful team of volunteers who made this weekend a success: childcare teams, usher and greeting teams, the transportation ministry, our tech and music departments, and all those who helped with the luncheon and the inevitable “running around.” I cannot even consider trying to do any of this without you all! And “thank you!” to those who supported the Jesus Paradox Conference with your attendance and your generous love gifts. I trust you were blessed beyond your expectations, but want you to know that you were a blessing as well, to me and our guests.
Salem Tabernacle is such a beautiful expression of Jesus and I love serving in his kingdom with you. Enjoy your Life Transformation Groups as they launch this week – I look forward to what God has for us in the next few months…
Grace & Peace,
Pastor
P.S. please mark Thursday, May 29th on your calendars – I need you to join me for prayer that night!
We are ecstatic that three exceptional men of God have agreed to spend a weekend with us, leading us deeper into the mysteries of faith…
Jonathan Martin leads the liars, dreamers and misfits of Renovatus: A Church for People Under Renovation in Charlotte, NC where he lives with his wife Amanda. He is the author of the book Prototype from Tyndale House (2013). He’s a product of the “Christ-haunted landscape” of the American South, sweaty revivals, and hip-hop. He holds degrees from Gardner-Webb University, the Pentecostal Theological Seminary, and Duke University Divinity School. His main claim to fame was getting his Aquaman, Robin and Wonder Woman action figures saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age. He hates the sound of his own voice except for the times when he loves it. When he is talking it’s mostly about the beauty of God, what an extraordinary thing it is for you to be called God’s beloved, and finding new ways to be human. He is unafraid to be seen walking his small dog Cybil.
Dr. Christopher A. House is a preacher, thought leader, scholar, public intellectual, and Pentecostal ecumenist who helps to further represent the existence of high level scholarship and the strong intellectual tradition present in the Church. Coming out of a solid preaching and service tradition rooted in the Pentecostal church, he seamlessly integrates intellectual rigor and spiritual fervor in his sermonic and ministry presentations. He serves the body of Christ locally and globally as an intenerate preacher who effectively communicates the gospel of Jesus Christ in such a way that promotes building bridges across diverse identities and religious traditions. Beyond the pulpit, he has held many distinguished academic fellowships. He holds an earned Doctorate of Philosophy degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He currently serves as an assistant professor at Ithaca College, Chaplin of the African American Worship Service at Cornell University (both in Ithaca, NY), and as a visiting professor at The Race, Rhetoric and Religion Institute at Memphis Theological Seminary (Memphis, TN). Deep theological reflection and profound social witness of his efforts at work in improving the human condition mark his published articles in scholarly and professional journals. Dr. House is an accomplished public, motivational, and inspirational speaker. His teaching can be heard in seminary and secular classrooms, and an increased demand on his powerful preaching ministry has resulted in a plethora of invitations extended to him to minister in the United States, and around the world including Jamaica, The Bahamas, Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa. Those who have experienced the ministry of Dr. Christopher A House declare that surely this young man has come to the kingdom for such a time as this.
Chris E.W. Green is the Assistant Professor of Theology at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary in Cleveland, Tennessee. He offers the most extensive investigation of the Lord’s Supper in the Pentecostal tradition to date. In his bold monograph, Green invites those within the tradition and beyond to intentional dialogue with regard to this most important Christian practice. He is responsible for the decision we made to celebrate communion weekly.
