July 5, 2026 – The Bill of Rights and Responsibilities – Proper 9

This Sunday Pastor Bill preaches “The Bill of Rights…and Responsibilities” for Proper 9 the season after Pentecost

What does true freedom look like in the Kingdom of God? In this message, Pastor Bill challenges the common understanding of freedom by contrasting individual rights with Christian responsibility. Drawing from Romans 7, Matthew 11, and other lectionary passages, he explores how discipleship is not about having unlimited choices but about having our wills transformed by Christ.

Rather than using our freedom for ourselves alone, followers of Jesus are called to use their lives, resources, and influence for the flourishing of others. This sermon invites us to examine how we love our neighbors, care for creation, engage our communities, and embody the self-giving way of Jesus. True freedom isn’t found in self-sufficiency—it is discovered in sacrificial love, shared life, and becoming people whose burdens are light because we carry Christ’s yoke.
